Aherin

Aherin is the personal design brand for woodworker, maker and designer Travis Aherin. He specialises in handcrafted wooden furniture, toys and accessories, currently as a side project as he works full-time for Andrew Dominic Furniture in Cape Town.

In 2020 I collaborated with him on his logo design, which has been implemented in print and laser-engraved onto wooden toy boxes. Based on the concept of the heron (the origin of the Irish surname Aherin), I hand illustrated the heron logomark and then digitally rendered it to perfect the geometry, and created a custom-designed font for the lettering of the name.

I also assisted with copywriting and branding of his first wooden toy design for Aherin, called Cairn – a set of wooden balancing stones, which is showcased in the Pencil Club in Umhlanga in Durban.
