Obs Pasta Kitchen

Founded in 2017 by a group of volunteers, Obs Pasta Kitchen is a community project based in Observatory, Cape Town. Centred around a ‘soup kitchen’ (but pasta, not soup) as a foundation for community upliftment, the idea is to bring people together around a meal and then take it a step further for those looking for more than a meal.

Various offshoots of the kitchen such as the life-changer programme called Working Wednesdays have developed, in line with the overall ethos of the Obs Pasta Kitchen, to “teach a man to fish”, creating long-term relationships and empowering people to elevate their lives. Areas we focus on include training and job-readiness, addiction programmes, physical and mental health and integrating people into other community programmes that may offer housing, support or other kinds of counselling required.

“Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach him to fish and feed him for a lifetime.”

Sarah is one of the founding members and using digital communications (website, social media and PR) helped to develop a volunteer base and grow the funding for Obs Pasta Kitchen, which is entirely donation based.
